AAIP Worker EOI Points Calculator
Built from Alberta's published Worker Expression of Interest Points Grid (100 points). Selection also depends on occupation, sector and remaining allocations, so a high score is not by itself an invitation.
Scoring grid last checked against Alberta's Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) Points Grid on 2026-09-24. This page is updated when the rules change; always confirm against the official source on the day you submit.
How is the AAIP Worker EOI scored?
Out of 100 points: 69 for human capital and 31 for economic factors. Human capital is education worth 22, language worth 13, work experience worth 21, age worth 5 and a family connection in Alberta worth 8. Economic factors are an Alberta job offer worth 16, job location worth 5 and a regulated occupation worth 10. There is no minimum score to submit an EOI — the score decides where you sit in the pool.
| Education — highest level 12, completed in Canada 10 | 22 |
|---|---|
| Language — higher of English or French 10, bilingual bonus 3 | 13 |
| Work experience — total experience 11, Canadian experience 10 | 21 |
| Age | 5 |
| Family in Alberta (parent, child or sibling; in-laws excluded) | 8 |
| Alberta job offer 10, rural community or designated sector 6 | 16 |
| Job located outside the Calgary and Edmonton CMAs | 5 |
| Regulated occupation with the required certification or licence | 10 |
Do total and Canadian work experience add up, or does only the higher one count?
They add up. Total work experience anywhere, worth up to 11, and Canadian work experience, worth up to 10, are separate line items that combine to 21. Only within the Canadian item does the grid take the higher of the two: six months or more in Alberta scores 10, six months or more in another province scores 6, and you get one or the other.
| Total work experience, 12 months or more | 11 |
|---|---|
| Total work experience, 6–11 months | 7 |
| Total work experience, less than 6 months | 3 |
| 6 months or more worked in Alberta | 10 |
| 6 months or more worked elsewhere in Canada | 6 |
There is no 12-month tier and no partial credit under six months on the Canadian item — six months is a hard threshold.
What French level earns points?
NCLC 6 is enough for the full 8 points. AAIP scores both English and French and awards the higher of the two: English at CLB 6 or above scores 10, CLB 5 scores 8 and CLB 4 scores 5; French at NCLC 6 or above scores 8, NCLC 5 scores 5 and NCLC 4 scores 3. Reaching 4 or higher in both adds a further 3 bilingual points.
Submitting an EOI requires at least CLB 4 in English or NCLC 4 in French across all four abilities. Points are based on the lowest of your four scores.
Frequently asked questions
What AAIP Worker EOI score do I need?
Alberta does not publish a fixed cut-off and sets no minimum to submit. Candidates are selected on EOI score together with labour market needs, sector priorities, remaining nomination allocations and application volumes, so the effective score varies a lot between rounds and streams. Check Alberta's published draw history rather than assuming a single threshold.
Is there a fee to submit a Worker EOI?
Yes. Since April 7, 2026 a CAD 135 fee applies to submitting a Worker Expression of Interest. It is separate from the fees for the nomination application itself.
Which relatives count for the Alberta family connection points?
Only a parent, child or sibling who is 18 or older, living in Alberta, and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. In-laws do not count. Candidates who submitted a Worker EOI on or before January 29, 2025 and claimed a grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew may keep those points in their existing EOI.
Are the job location points and the rural points the same thing?
No, they are separate items. The 6-point item covers a Rural Renewal Stream endorsement letter, a Tourism and Hospitality Stream offer from an association-member employer, or a law enforcement offer from an AACP-member employer. The 5-point item applies to any job located outside the Calgary and Edmonton Census Metropolitan Areas. Both can be claimed together.
How do I claim the 10 points for a regulated occupation?
Two conditions must both hold: your Alberta job offer is in a regulated occupation, and you already hold the licence from the Alberta regulatory body for that occupation, or a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate or a trade certificate recognised by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. If certification is not compulsory in your occupation and you have no trade certificate, you cannot claim this item.
Can I submit an EOI without an Alberta job offer?
You can submit, but you forfeit most of the economic factors: the job offer at 10, the rural or sector item at 6, the location item at 5 and the regulated occupation item at 10 all depend on an offer — 31 points in total.
Running AAIP alongside Express Entry?
The Alberta Express Entry Stream nominates from the federal pool, so your CRS score and your Worker EOI score both matter and are worth checking together.
